Any plans for bringing back the availability of posting pictures? I see pics here but I can't get the feature to work. Thanks Bax.

At the moment people are putting there pics up on other sites like Photobucket or Flickr and then putting a link to them. The basic way to do this is grab the URL of your photo e.g.
http://www.somephotosite/something/blah/yourphoto1234456.jpg
In my case, the URL I am going to insert is: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3072/2586761558_2bf0e965c6.jpg
Then copy the URL of your photo, click the "Insert Image" button on this page, and paste in the URL of your photo.

The photo feature we had here before was really nice. It was extremely convenient.
Linking to photos on photo hosting websites is a pain in the keister.
Still, If it keeps us up and running more smoothly, I'm all for it. Actually, linking to photos from photo hosts is fairly standard on many forums I have seen. The way Bax had things set up before was the easiest I had seen.

Yeah ... This site has never accepted images via Safari ...
I've always used photobucket links to post pictures...
Click on the camera icon and insert the link as awfurby suggests...
In this case ...
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/57Chet/Temporary%20Album/DjangoAlbumLo-res.jpg
was inserted into the "URL" box ...

That's weird, I never had problems posting from Safari. Always went fine. I haven't been posting pics lately because of the need to sign up to yet another site. Too much hassle but I guess I will need to do that soon too.
I was wondering: does anyone know if the new site Baxter is working on will accept photo's like it used to or will we need the photobucket thing there too?

The problem with photo uploads is that people don't size their images appropriately. When someone's uploaded 1 or 2 meg picture, it just hammers on the site, slowing it down for everyone, and then it doesn't take long before it fills up the server space. I need to put something in place that will check that ahead of time and keep people from doing it, but it keeps getting pushed back while I just try and find time for more pressing issues.

Love this shot
I like linking them because you know the size you are sending. This is the same size as I saw on my flickr site and I don't see much, if any variation.
I does take some getting use to though, especially after you've been doing something one way for so long.
This is a fairly easy adaptation. Good Luck!

Baxter, how about when linking an already hosted image via a URL? Does that have the same impact? The above image is linked, obviously, since we can't upload just yet.

I recommend a Flickr account or some other external means of hosting pictures. Even if we were still able to host on the GDP it still makes more sense to use an external source because the image and the rest of the page are coming from two different sources which will likely help you get a faster fill. (I'm sure Bax has plenty of bandwidth but when the site is busy there is no such thing as to much). I host every image I post from <a href="http://www.msorensen.net ">my domain's web space and it actually makes things easier. Pictures that I use repeatedly ("let's post pictures of our guitars" threads) are always in the same place, ready to go.

When they're linked the only drawbacks are that (a) if the user didn't resize them and they're huge, I can't resize them, and they can slow down the rendering of the page if there's a lot of them (but that's always true, no matter where they're coming from)

Baxter,
Any ideas regarding my photobucket problem?
I noticed that if I select the HTML code that seems to work, however, when I clicked on the picture it took me to my Photobucket page. Is there any way to aviod this?
Thanks.

In some older versions of Safari, you can't click the OK. When the box hides, it wipes the info out.

Drew, I use Safari as well, no problems here at all. My version is: Version 3.1.2 (5525.20.1)
Here's a URL test:
Basically, the URL I pasted in for 'URL' after clicking on the camera button was this: http://web.mac.com/kgillum/iWeb/Site/Gear_files/IMG_1022.jpg
Just right click (ctrl+click) on the image, and select 'copy image address'.

Bax, I just can't get that to work. I am not that computer literate. I had no problem before but I just don't have hours to learn how to use other sights for photos. I just don't post as much as I used to, because I can't show photos to describe what I am trying to explain. I can't forward folks to my old posts because the pictures are gone. I am truly grateful for all your hard work, I don't know how you do it! I just hope you can get this to work again. Thanks, Bobcat
