The New Guitar: 6120 DSV. Plays and sounds wonderful. I knew I wanted a Dyna 6120 and went back and forth between the DSV and DSW. I like the western stuff right now, but haven't always. So I thought the DSV was a better bet. It did have a slight nut issue, the strings were getting caught on the nut when bending or using the Bigsby. I took it to Don Butler (aka Toneman) and he fixed it in about 45 seconds. This guitar has become my favorite Gretsch (for now anyways.)
The Mods:
6128T. Powertron in the bridge position. Got this Jet(and my Tenny) during the MF blowout. I would have preferred a Jet with filters but at the blowout price I couldn't resist. As it turned out I really liked the Dynas, but found I mostly used the neck pup or both combined. I wouldn't have replaced the bridge pup if I didn't have the DSV though. The powertron sound great, and now I sort of have the best of both worlds in one Jet.
Sunburst 5120. TV-HT in the neck, Classic in the Bridge. I knew I wanted a Classic in the bridge, it seemed the obvious choice. I generally lean towards single coil pups, and really like the sound of the neck HiLo in my Tenny. It's nice and warm when the high end is attenuated a bit but it still retains the single-coil snap and articulation of that pup. The Classic is not quite as bright as I was expecting, maybe due to the bridge pup being a little further away from the bridge when properly intonated. Anyway the new pups have really transformed this guitar. The Electromatics are an amazing value.
