My second Gretsch has arrived. Having played my 6120 Blk for 2 years it was time to expand.
My new Spectra-Sonic Lead (ser.nr JD04111148) is a dream to play, but what kind of TV-Jones pickups does it have ??. In the 04 catalog it says
1 TVJ Plus, 1TVJ Classic. In the 06 catalog it sats 2 TVJ Powertrons. I have the Sperzel non locking tuners, but in the 04 cat it says Sperzel Locking, and in the 06 Die-Cast !!!!. Anybody on this increible forum that can help answer my questions ??

You're confusing yourself. The lead always had powertrons and the C-melody bari had a magnatron in the neck and classic in the bridge. This was while uder contract with Gretsch. Things have changed this past year with TV jones taking back production. I have an 04 like yours and they are the PT's

Hey Incubator. My SS had Classics in it! The SN is JD04111125. I bought it unmodified from the original owner. He said he got it from a music store advertising that it had been shown at NAMM as one of the first MIJ SS's. It also came with the tan case like the MIA SS's.
I pulled the Classics and mounted a Dynasonic in the bridge and a MagnaTron in the neck.

That would be a rare bird! Every 04 I've ever ran across was running PT's

Hey Inc,
I just changed my bridge pick-up in my '02 Spectra Sonic and the original one looked like this on the back. Maybe yours will too?

Mine had "Classic" stickers on the underside. I had a USA model SS a few years back and it was labeled like Mainsoda's.

Weird, I too was under the impression that all SS leads were equipped with a powertron set. Mine is an 05 and I have checked, yet, but pretty sure powertrons are in there.
Lucky, I think the tan cases are sweet compared to the black case I have.

My Spectra-Sonic has Powertrons. Having replaced the bridge with a Gotoh, and installed Schaller staplock, it is now perfect. Thanks for the help.
