I used to think Roy Orbison was blind. The sunglasses, coupled with my misinterpretation of the lyrics;

Actually - same thing here too Tux. Well, almost... I don't think I ever thought that Roy was blind but I definitely thought there was something wrong with him and the glasses were an attempt to cover it up. I suppose in a way I was right - he just wasn't rock 'n' roll looking enough. I know Billy Joel kind of felt the same way about his eyes so wore shades for a while.

Well!if you observe Orbison's eyes in that video, he really can't hide how shy and embarrassed he was. The dark shades gave him that tough cool guy look he needed.
