WB, I just love that "thing". The price is very, very good.
My Clark tank has a little extra "gain" in it too. Just wakes things up a little.
IMO, on a tweed, a "tank" going into the preamp, sounds better than an onboard.
I've had them both ways, and I just like the sound of a tank better.
Wenz, get a tank. The way you trade amps, you'll always have your "verb"

Billy, I have to admit that immediately caught my eye too, and I thought it was refreshing to see some straight talk on an amp company's website.
the "Thing"'s become a fixture in my rig in record time, I really love it.
JD, this one can go from unity gain to more boost than I'll even need. I like the sound of a tank in front of a tweed amp too.

Well, I took receipt of the amp today! The pine cab is nice looking, the tweed is installed perfectly and everything else LOOKS top knotch! I say LOOKS, because I won't get a chance to play it until tomorrow. My kids are sleeping and the wife is mad. Women don't understand men, especially one's who buy and sell gear as often as I do... lol Oh well...

RJ, yeah, he had one built already, but it had the Jensen in it, so I told him I wanted the Weber an then he swapped it out for me and shipped it the next day. The lacquer job was really well done, but it looks newer than my Blues Deluxe reissue since I used one coat of amber shellac and this one looks like clear nitro lacquer. I'm going to have to buy some string ease and spray my fingers tomorrow. Maybe some pledge will do the trick?
Maybe I should melt off my fingerprints? ;p

If you want you could bring it out to the farm. I have horsehair plaster in the stairwell going upstairs. If we drag it along the walls in no time at all we could get that vintage look like Fred's!

Sounds like your chompin' at the bit to play through your new tweed. If you want it relic'ed, just let my 16 yr old son play it for about a month
I swear that kid has acid coming out of his finger tips (but I must admit, he's starting to play a mean bass). Can't wait for pictures and sound clips.

When I finally gather some strength after getting a beat down from a kendo stick, I'll be all up on here with pics and stuff ready to lead with an mp3, for you to hear, to listen to just plain absorb cause when it comes to waitin', this shize's not the norm...
Translation, when I find time and feel up to it after doing hours of homework and dealing with the missus, I'll be back with pics and sound clips.

First, haven't read all this thread, but a tweed that is fantastic is a Harvard, loud as hell too. I dunno what they go for these days, used to be in the teens but alot less than a Deluxe but just as nice.

Texarock, you need to read the thread, I think I've found with a little help from my friends an at least 1/2 price alternative to the big box boys...

Holy cow.
I've really curious about your new tweed, but that Echoplex is over the top!
Congrats, and condolences to your wife.

Where'd you get the echo-plex? is it tube, or solid state? Because if it's not tube........
(sound of Wenzels head exploding in the background)

Nothing wrong with a solid state echoplex (which I think is what Chris got - congrats!), I know I love mine.
Not a single pedal in the world that gets the dynamics of a nice echoplex.

Oct 18, 2008 10:00 a.m. wenzel:
Yeah, it's solid state and since the amp is tube anyway, no need for overkill! lol
I got it on ebay for almost as much as a pedal and it's been overhauled, so I know (hope) it will work like new...
I'll be able to use this with both amps, my blues deluxe and my 5E3 deluxe that's hand wired.
I have to admit, I wasn't expecting the new deluxe to sound like all that, but it really does sound good and it's brand new, not even broken in yet. I like it set to around 8 on the master volume, where you get that great tube overdrive, but not too much. It's like a little bit of breakup. When it's cranked to 12 it gets really nasty...Below 7 it's a mild mannered chicken pickin amp, which sounded good for jazz too. I love it too because when pushed it isn't TOO loud. I can't wait to record with it!
Thanks for checking out my quest for tone!
JD, why not plug a dyna anything into it? I might have to buy one???

Well once components start burning in and that speaker loosens up it will only get better!
I still want their blackface chassis but I think I'll use you satisfaction as a litmus test for a tweed
