Korean guitars are crap

  well, personally i really don't care (don't feel insulted, no feathers ruffled), but the reason i don't like even "mid-range" is because the current production supposedly "high-end" guitars aren't necessarily better or even "high end". some are. custom shop stuff is high-end, i'm sure, but there's plenty of $1k+ guitars on the walls of stores, which are very good, but really about as good as some of the current asian guitars.

  so this whole conversation isn't only about asian guitars. it's also about what passes for "high end" today. IMHO.

  Sometimes you have to just close your eyes and pretend you don't know anything about guitars such as where a guitar was made or what the name of it's manufacturer is. Then, just rely on your instincts for feel, tone and vibe. Wood is wood and craftsmanship is craftsmanship. When Telecasters first came out, they were considered cheap and almost irrelevant (until everybody suddenly got it).When I got my 5120, I played six different ones over the course of a couple hours in room all by myself. One of them was magic and now it's mine. A couple of mods turned it into a workhorse.

  Korean is mid-range now, the bottom comes from China and Indonesia.

  Hell if you have a Korean guitar be thankful.

  I think you nailed it RhythmMax,I think if we just played what we liked and didn't know better we might be much better off. The internet has a lot to do with that I think, we have much more info/opinions to look at. I do think it colors how we feel. I know I loved my 5120 and the sound and tone, but had to admit after reading opinions about the pickups I started to feel inadequate. Then I really sat and listened and said I like this and that is why I got it! Rob

  +1, RhythmMax. That's the best definition. My 2 guitars are neither "entry level" nor "middle range". They're just right and they have exactly the pickups I chose for them.

  A friend of mine, who has a current gibson, he once played my solid-body guitar and not only did he say that it was very nice, he had this puzzled look "why does this chinese guitar feel and sound better than my gibson?". (Because it has better pickups I installed).

  yes, it's easier at a local store - you can play a guitar (like i did), but with certain companies' return policy there's no reason not to try an asian guitar (like i did with my archtop).
