I'm going to assemble my very own telecaster at some point and am wondering what you all think about this body with gold hardware (bigsby b5, bridge plate, control plate, tuners, knobs, etc.) You don't really say telecasters with gold hardware and was wondering if I'd have a bad match going on. This would likely be the pickguard of choice.

Flame maple, binding, gold hardware, and a pearloid guard is way too kitschy for my taste. I like my telecasters a little plainer.

Nice choice, although I'd probably be inclined to go for this one. The colour's a bit richer for a start, and I just prefer ash bodies (assuming it's swamp ash, not North American Ash, which is a backbreaker). Just my preference...

I'm with Walter on this one. I tend to think of teles as more or less plain 'workhorse' guitars. I don't think you can possibly go wrong with butterscotch and a black pickguard. But hey, we all have choices, right :)

Dude! I'm not thàt ugly!
I really don't mind a little glam at all, but Matt's guitar idea is just a little too Liberace for me. YMMV, IMO, etc...

I agree but I would like black binding on my Tele just to make it a smidge different.

It's butterscotch/cream and black for me, possibly the slightly transparent version.
Or 2-color 50s Fender sunburst, maybe a muted "violin"/tobacco burst (no binding!)
I have a cheapie Tele with a dark stain between SG cherry red and brown – I like it too.
But we must all suit ourselves, eh?

I'm right with you concerning teles - Simple and clean.
Great photo BTW. Nice pin striping.

I like Teles with binding. I like the way the binding catches the light and makes a nice outline of the guitar. Looks especially nice under a black light.
Do you seriously want to pay that much for a guitar body?

the best tele's have one color (yes butterscotch is a favourite) and lots of lacquer missing.

Nice axe, Andy. What's it called; the Blues Box?
Every gold hardware git I've owned wears off, sooner or later, and looks crummy.
I'm another Plain Jane when it comes to Teles. A good grain under a light Butterscotch Blonde is fine by me. The sound is what matters. Who the heck thinks about what a guitar looks like while playing it? I certainly can't multi-task at that level.

I'm branding my Tele with Super'Trons in it, just as a nod to my Gretsch fetish.

I went with butterscotch blonde and a black pickguard with a TVJ Filtertron in the neck position.

that is a great tele Walter! Got some flash, got some dirt and I'll bet a ton of tone...that fretboard looks well seasoned too...
not to bag on your choice, different strokes for different folks, but a black tele with gold hardware might be a different story...
After seeing TV Jones drop a Classic in the bridge of a tele I've thought that would be about the coolest thing you could do to a cheapo tele...i may have to do it!

Matt,
I dig it. I really like the look of gold with a classic tobacco sunburst. Have you thought about doing it WITHOUT a pickguard? You've selected that beautiful figured maple (and will pay serious bucks for it too), why not just let it show? Just a thought; It's gonna be your guitar, you do whatever you want with it. The pearl doesn't look bad IMO.

Wow, didn't not expect this much attention. I think Teles with binding look great. Fender American Deluxe in cherry burst is beautiful with the white binding and the pearl pickguard. I even think that it's a relatively plain guitar. Sure it's a dressed up tele, but think about that... a dressed up tele... still pretty plain in my opinion.
On the other hand, I don't like pinstriping on guitars very much. To me, that's much more glamourous than some gold hardware. But different strokes for different folks I suppose.
After actually seeing the gold hardware on the sunburst tele that dmanlow posted, I'm not sure if I really like the look, so I can definitely be persuaded into chrome (wayyyyyy cheaper)
SqwareKat, how would it work without a pickguard? Wouldn't there be some slighly exposed wires from the pickup slots?
Thanks for the input, even the discouraging ones. I have a proclivity towards shiny, pearl, glamourous guitars I guess, you'll all just have to deal with it.
