Nope. That's a Crook and it's probably a Classic in the neck.
I like my teles plain jane, maybe even plain jane after some domestic abuse. My ideal tele is the Jeff Beck Esquire to put it into perspective.

I went through this several years ago to "finish up" a Tele project.
After many trains of thought, I settled on a non tinted Butterscotch Blonde, black bakelite guard, and good old Fralin pups.

Matt, I saw your first post and the link to the body that you're thinking of getting. $350.00 for just the body ? why not look for a cheaper one on ebay or in a pawn shop and repaint/refinish it yourself. I've noticed that on a couple of the Fender related sites that some of the guys have bodies and necks for sale. seems like even one of these would be less expensive. tdpri.com. just a thought or 2.

If you can guarantee me that when I finish it, the sunburst will look that good, I'll do it.

Gotta keep tele's simple. One of the best looking one ive seen lately was a Squire Thinline that was painted a kind of olive green metallic with white PG.I would have bought it right there if it were a lefty.

Who made up THAT rule?
This ain't 1952. Fords come in colors besides black, shirts in colors other than white and Teles in colors other than butterscotch. Freedom. Creativity. Choices. What radical notions THEY are.
Matt,
It looks like that Tele body is perfectly happy to either have a pickguard or not. Yes you'd have to have the metal cover plate for the controls, but the rest is optional. As I said, it was just a thought. I actually like pearloid pickguards, and I don't think it'd look half bad.
Whatever route you end up going, have fun and let's see some pics!

I'm getting a black Hahn 228 (basically a Tele) with the classic Duo-Jet color scheme: binding, mahogany-stained back and sides, thick silver PG, and a Bigsby. That should please Gretchophiles and Tele-lovers alike. Delivery deadline is October 30, and there will be photos.
Proteus, no fair quoting King Crimson in a Tele thread.

i think that if you want to pimp your Tele, you should go for it. i'd also eschew the pickguard in favor of letting the flame show; if you're going to pay for the top material, you should show as much of it as possible. but on the other hand, i love pearloid...i just finished a matching Strat/Tele set with white pearloid over the Mexican "Electron Blue" finish, which looks awesome.
you might want to look at Warmoth and Allparts bodies as well, which i believe are equivalent in quality, are available with flame maple tops, and may be less expensive. the nice thing about the Warmoth bodies is that you can get them with the control cavity rear-routed so you can maximize the undisturbed area of the top.
