Well, I'm for sure picking a Tele. I just bought one today.
What would you pick: a Les Paul, a Strat, or a Tele?

I agree with Billy Zoom post... but if Gretsches were not ever been made, Tele would be undoubtly my first choice! I never owned a LP or a Strat, but played a couple of them during the years. I own a '71 Tele and it's a hell of guitar!!!!!!!!

I've always preferred playing bigger-bodied guitars and love the way my Gibson LP Studio sounds. Strats don't do much for me. Tele is the easy second. I mean you can't make a LP sound like a Tele and Teles hold their own.
But if you threw in offsets as another option, that would be the easiest #2. I think my next guitar, I'm aiming towards a Jazzmaster.

Stratocaster, as I already have one. It was my first guitar and I'll never sell it. I already decided the Telecaster wasn't for me. I sold it. Now I'm waiting for the brown truck to bring my first Gretch, a Pro Jet.

being a clash fan and lovin' some Luther Perkins... gotta go with the tele.
I have a MIM tele that I "distressed" one evening in a fit of Pabst Blue Ribbon inspired creativity... and it looks even better now! hahaha.

hrm, this has weighed heavily on me lately. I absolutely love the way a tele sounds in the hands of a competent tele player. I don't happen to be one though. That neck is just way too skinny at the nut for my chubby digits. When I play them I drool for the twang but can't finger pick em to save my life.
Paul, maybe. I have a 295, and it spends an awful lot of time in the case so I think maybe I'm not a gibson guy. Neck's kind of chunky for my tastes.
That leaves me with strats. I'd love a good 1960 relic, though I can't afford one, and all that seems to come out of one when it's in my hands is blues. Nothing wrong with that though.
Maybe a telerat? Strat profiled neck on a tele body?
