Great news. I wanted to hear more from this little project of Brian's. Did you read about it on his web site or did you run into him at the mall and hear about it in person?

The thing that chaps my khakis is the classical project. Put out some good rockabilly like a Stray Cat should instead of tryin to come up with "Bach"abilly or some other way to re-invent the wheel. Besides that with Bernie gone, all is not well in Setzerland. Poor guy needs to nail down one project/group and stick with it instead of all these side jobs. The Rockabilly Riot album was great. Setzer plays rockabilly. He should do what he is known for. It was a very big breath of fresh air to fans who are getting tired of the canned big band. Meat and potatoes make the money. Take it back to the roots.

Doncha think he might get bored doing that all the time? Don't get me wrong, it's his bread and butter I'll grant you. I just don't see the problem with branching and trying different things.
Look at it like this: What would've happened if Elvis had stayed with the same Sun Records sound, or the Beatles would've stayed the "lovable mop-tops from Liverpool"? Sure, their places in rock history would've still been fairly secured but I don't think their importance would've been nearly what it is today.
You can also look at guys like Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen, Steve Earle, Bob Dylan, Danny Gatton, even Chet Atkins, Les Paul or Merle Travis...any number of artists that were all over the map just because they got bored doing the same old same old. As a regularly working musician I can relate because every couple of years I tend to get bored and want to try different things than what I may be doing at the time.
I'm not a fan of classical but it would be interesting to me to see what he can do to these songs...after all, I wasn't really "big" on big band either til Setzer exposed me to a little bit of it.

To add to what Scott's saying, I think it isn't the band or artist's responsibility to please the fans. Don't get me wrong, they shouldn't be giving them the bird or anything, but the first person you should please is yourself since you're the one who has to play and write the songs.
I'm not defending just Setzer here, I'm defending anyone who writes songs. If fans were saying "we want the same thing just with a different album cover" I'd say it's been fun, and then it's off to find something new for me to do.
It's a give and take relationship, the whole band/fan thing. The best an artist can do is write quality stuff and the best a fan can do is give it a chance.

I understand and agree with you all. I just heard classical and thought "is he nuts??" But I guess when we heard the swing stuff first we might have thought the same thing eh? I appearantly don't need to post at such hours anymore. Heck if he puts it out I'd probably buy it anyway. Good point guys.

The Classical thing looks a little weird to me, but I'll buy it if there's any Gretschiness whatsoever to it....
The term Bacha billy is good. Wish I'da thought of it. A vote up for dutley

Right on. Good, bad or indifferent, an artist's responsibility is to his art.

I'm pretty damned sure that the 'Cuttin' Classical' album will kick some serious ass. Brian is not just a killer rock n roll guitar player, he's a brilliant creative musician.
