I know many of you are Setzer fans so I thought I'd post this. I was watching Dancing With The Stars (I don't watch this show normally..it's actually really lame) and I heard the host say Brian Setzer and his Orchestra was gonna be on the next show whenever that is...Tuesday night I think?

I don't watch that show, but it might be worth it to tivo. although I doubt they'd show much of the band. You'd think the camera would be on the dancers.

Awesome! I can't believe I'm going to have to watch that show to see it, but I'll take the hit to see some fresh Setzer...

Funny thing about that show. The initial concept was so universally panned, and yet it is consistently in the very high numbers in the weekly ratings.
When I first saw your post, I thought, "This is going to be great, watching Brian get out there with a gorgeous girl and dance his heart out". But then I thought, "I don't know very many musicians who can dance their way out of a paper sack."

...there are tons of incredibly hot women dancing around wearing almost nothing...I am actually wondering why it's not an even more popular show...

I like the show. It will be nice to hear some BSO played. Of course, I also like dancing.
I'm not ashamed to admit that I spent 3 years in ballet classes during high school. Before you laugh out loud...Where else could a high school aged guy hang out and be outnumbered by girls in skin tight clothing and dance the night away? My high school sweetheart was a very talented dancer. I really enjoyed performing with her and the rest of the gals. It was a load of fun and a memorable experience.
I was also lucky that the director of the ballet company never made me wear skin tight costumes that made me uncomfortable.

I'm a good dancer...sort of...I always hated dancing and preffered being the guy making the music so I wouldn't have to...but as I grew older, I found that chicks REALLY dig a guy who can dance and look at least "confident" doing it. I suppose it's a page from an Elvis movie or maybe that Billy Joel song that says "I found I could dance and still look TOUGH anyway"....
but I digress... I never did watch the show and I admit PROUDLY that I'll only be checking it out for the music this time...Setzer's my hero, gotta see it...plus for whatever reason (probably discussed in full length on ten older threads) they CANCELLED the christmas tour....I didn't go last year because I spent WAY too much money seeing Stray Cats and thought I'd wait till this year...guess I'll have to settle for TV and the DVD's that just came out....again.

Not my favorite show. My daughter dances for Ballet San Jose, so I guess my opinion is jaded watching some of the dancing on that show. I much prefer So You Think You Can Dance, as the people on that show are insanely talented dancers.
That being said, the few episodes I did see, I was surprised that the celebrities did as well as they did. I'm watching tonight to see BSO though

Yeah, that Cloris Leachman is amazing.
Actually, I watch the show from time to time because my wife watches it, and I find it entertaining. Dancing is beautiful. Wish I could do it.
Didn't any of you guys play in bands during the last disco era- John Travolta, etc? There were a few jobs we did where the whole room was doing that stuff and I was just enthralled. Ballroom dancing is as much an art as playing guitar.

My mother inlaw watches it and it is interesting how the winners are usually ...... well winners. Folks that want to be the best.
Look at Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice almost won. I think she told me he came in second.
BUt anyway, real dancing is pretty hard for sure. I know I can't at all.
As for Ballet there otterbean, when I was a kid being from Pittsburgh, you automatically are born into a Steeler fan. Lynn Swann was one of the greatest ever and he was as graceful as a gazelle and he claimed it was from Ballet. Thats cool.
I just can't get past MOST of the music for dance offs, except swing which is what my post if to state, I'll be watching as I dig BSO. I hope he does something Zany. Thanks for the reminder BTW.

Yes, it was really nice to see Brian get the spotlight for a few. I was afraid he might not, but lo and behold! Naturally they tore it up as they always do. Would have been thoroughly enjoyable if they'd just skipped that whole dancing part...

Hey, Otterbean,
I did community theater for years in order to meet cool gals, and I was constantly surrounded by lovely women... and I was always one of few straight men in the room -- very little competition, you see -- so yeah, it worked!
Worked a whole lot better than being a musician has, truth to tell (my motive for doing music was... well, to do music, not to hook up with girls, and I realize I'm in a strict minority on that account.)
As for dancing: I don't like to do it, but former Mrs. Flyer has told me that I am, in fact, a good dancer. I tend not to believe it, but she never was one to compliment me when unwarranted.

Whoever started the myth that being a musician attracts women should be tarred and feathered. As far as I can tell, playing or even just toting an instrument can be a handy ice-breaker for girls who want to talk to an attractive fellow anyway. It certainly won't make them want to talk to anyone they wouldn't otherwise. Anyway, (as if I hadn't already made it obvious) it never worked for me.

I suffered thru an hour of pure garbage hoping that the BSO would play another song. Were they really hired for ONE song? Did we need 15 minutes of 8 year olds being interviewed instead of another BSO song? Setzer won't tour the U.S., but he'll do this trash? Maybe I could have booked them for my wedding!
What the hell is wrong with everyone and everything nowadays? (possible new topic)

JPP: I agree totally. I did however, enjoy watching the jitterbug/jive couple at the beginning of the show.
I've seen Setzer's BSO shows in many DVD concerts and they seemed better than in tonight's performance.
It seemed like the beginning of Rock This Town's intro was rushed and this set the pace for the entire song.
But - I can only fanatsize about ever playing in a band that good and can only hope for 10% of Brian Setzer's talent on one of his bad days.

I saw them at the Jazz Aspen festival this summer and their new drummer seemed a bit off then too. The first couple of songs were rushed at the beginning but then they seemed to hit their stride and it was great.
Anyone know what happened to Bernie Dresel?

I wish him the best.
