Saw this guy for the first time last night at Exit/In. The opening band (Caddle) introduced him as an amazing guitarist, but still I was unprepared for what I saw.
Certainly not your traditional rockabilly guitarist (with an SG and an AC30 no less), this guy could do it all. From uncanny Don Rich type chicken pickin' to ACDC snarl to Hendrixy wailing, sometimes all in the same song. And what an entertainer too. With his faux Presley sideburns and sparkling sequined suit, the tongue-in-cheekyness of the show was a riot.
I definitely recommend this guy. Unknown Hinson is the real deal. You may argue that the SG->VOX sound ain't entirely authentic, but if you'da closed your eyes, you wouldn'ta known he wasn't playing a big hollowbody through a Bassman (well alright, he lacked a Bigsby, even a Gibson vibrola would have been a nice touch).
I've seen him mentioned here before. Any fans?
