hi there guys and gals, I got an email from our own jimmy peters today. he informed me that he fell off of a ladder. here are the exact words : "I fell off a step ladder last week,really high, about 3 ft. , landed on a concrete curb and fractured my left hip. I will NOT repeat what I said when I landed. it's getting a little better each day but I still have 2 or 3 weeks to go. this is another home accident- wrong shoes & no brains. but their is no sense complaining, 'cause no-one listens anyway."

so, what I have in mind is starting this thread and letting him know how much we think of him and his posts. plus, it'll give him something to do while he's laid up recovering from his fall. maybe it'll give his wife a rest, too. brent

few weeks ago one of the biddys step on my foot while i was in my wheel chair( doing lundrty) went down like a smoke stack,face first into a wall,rolled& landed on her hip[snap]!] i thought some of her grerth would protect her a little no such luck.i felt bad,i couldn't catch her(With the bad arm)she fell on that side.oh...well "STUFF happens". weeks of rehab& pain.thankfully for her & you your not THAT old and frail sometimes that's a life thraeatning blow.

jimmy, man! You shouldn'ta done that!

I fell off the BOTTOM RUNG of a stepladder last May and cracked a bone in my elbow, and now I can't straighten my right arm all the way.

And I haven't reached quite your senior status.

Everytime I get hurt or sick, I feel like I'm too old to recover and I'll be that way forever.

To my amazement, I always get better anyway. Great how that works.

You'll recover just fine, I'm sure, and in the future you can now hire such work done. Gotta take care, man.

The funny email you sent this morning about the Police chopping wood was a good laugh...I need that.

Hello Jimmy Peters:

I'm almost as much of an 'old fart' as you and the Bear and on this road to old age I've earned the right to prescribe the following treatment.
1. Lots of Duane Eddy tunes on the stereo - must be played very loud.
2. Enough Jim Beam Black Label whiskey shots to not care about the stereo volume.
3. Multiple viewings of the Gretsch 'chicks' in the old convertable photo and in Proteus' photos from NAMM.

Hey Jimmy, you can avoid these types of accidents by making your wife climb the ladder and supervising from a lawn chair with a beer in hand. Works for me.

I had a ladder skid out from under me when my leg was kind of interlaced between the rungs. There was a loud snap and a violent blow to my shin. I thought briefly that I'd busted my tibia, fibula, or both, but it was the rung that gave out - split clean in two. I was only in my early thirties at the time, though. I'm not sure how old I'll have to be before I stop taking risks like that, but I'm willing to bet that it will only be after a serious injury.

General advice for work around the house: pretend you're your own boss and you can't afford worker's comp. Come to think of it, that's the way it really is.
