Not to change the subject but......
I have checked out the Gretsch products and also checked on other we sites what Gibson and Fender is offering and I must say the Gretsch new products are at least more interesting. can't say much caught my eye elsewhere. would be interesting to hear Proteus take on the competition.
And by the way Proto, mucho gracias for the coverage, its the best I have seen on the web.

Around the block, around the booth.
I've gone walkabout and seen maybe a third of the show. There is simply no way to describe the noises, the mayhem, the variety of people and products.
But I'll try anyway, in a later post.
For now, random shots from the booth.
Fred & Joe do a Gretsch history and trivia show a few times a day, tossing T-shirts to the assembled multitudes.
Guess who's talking to Fred in the third picture? There's no reason anyone should know; I wouldn't have without the name tag. But the answer does illustrate a small world.
A better pic of Steve Hunter, who's played a couple of sets at the booth again today. I recorded both, and hope to have highlights up later.
And some unadulterated, gratuitious guitporn...

I've taken pics of various other places, things that caught my eye, stupid stuff, odd stuff, beautiful stuff. It'll come.
No, Mark, nothing else has much caught my interest in a major way, but I haven't been a free-floating attention-available unit, either. In any case, NAMM leads to very quick overload; there's such density of stimulation, and much of it rich and superb (you really don't hear bad players). You soon get glazed and cynical...
It's nice to have a home in the Gretsch domain.

What did I mean by "signature artist"? I know it's a concept fraught with ambiguity, so I'm taking a Gretsch Company publication as authority, and it worded it "signature artist."

Pursuant to someone's request that I check out a couple of products, and as part of my walkabout, I visited the display of a certain well known manufacturer.
I mean, I tried to. They're on the top floor here with FMIC, just down the hall actually.
Here's how it went down.

Proteus, thanks for the great ongoing reports and pics. Great job. Just started reading them this morning and just getting caught up now.
I shoulda went, I shoulda went....my wife is in LA on buisness this weekend !!! I should have listened to her and gone along. Free hotel, meals , etc . Just had to pay for the flight. Gotta save it for her annual SF trip this summer though.
Keep up the great work...we all appreciate your hard work.

Ah well, I heard they announced a merger with a Danish audio equipment company today anyway. I knew the falling dollar made American things a lot cheaper for the Europeans, but really.
