Mutes = to make your guitar sound like a banjo
Mutes are used to suppress the sound of the strings
Nice clips of the Electromatics. I prefer the 2k's, but the Gretschbuckers sure do sound great still. A bit fuller IMO. I'd be happy with either.
BING. There was no right answer, just first answers.
And I agree with Gretschmaster. But once an experimental feature appears, it becomes a fixed historical point, and must be honored.
A beautiful (and bigger-than-you-think) 125th Anniversary banner goes to Gretschmaster!
I always thought the mutes on my '68 Nashville made it sound like a banjo.

P.S. Is this the longest thread ever?
I like the sound of the 5120 best but the 5129 sounds great also. Nothing sounds like the 125th Annie though!
That red and black looks really good.
Sweet I got the banner!
Going with the Protean answer payed off!
Sunday Trivia 2
What are two essential features of the Electrotone body, and when was it introduced?
The first three callers with correct answers win 125th Anniversary T-shirts.
fake f-hole, thinline, double cutaway '62
Reduced feedback when playing at higher volumes and simulated f-holes, introduced in 1962.
fake f-hole, thinline, introduced 1961
It may have been 59 or 60 with the Country Gent single cut.
EDIT: I thought it was introduced in late 1961. BTW Good job on the Electro's Proteus. Were you playing them?
Nokie Edwards & The Ventures prove you're never too "old."
I know the video with better audio is up at the Fender site, but here's what it sounded like from the door, and what I could see.

Introduced in 1962 to help reduce unwanted feedback while playing at louder volumes, the Electrotone hollow body is typically 2" in depth, and has simulated F-holes.

Joe Rocks!
Impromptu jam with our man Joe Carducci and amazing blues harper/vocalist Kellie Rucker. Unfortunately, I caught only the tail end. But you get the idea.
more sustain and less feedback, introduced late 1961

I was referring to the Electromatic hollow body. The forum is slow as hell at the moment. By the time the post is posted we're several posts further.
