Here's an idea. Becasue of the delay and the proxy errors when it comes to the Anniversary give away why not do a draw? I think this is fairer and gives everyone an equal chance to win. Maybe something like this:
Everyone who answers the question correctly within the first 30 minutes of it being posted gets entered into a draw to win the guitar. Proteus pulls the winner from Mr. Gretsch's hat.
Just a suggestion.

Actually, I think that is an awesome idea, dmanlow! Let Proteus or Mr. Gretsch pull the winner{s} from all correct entries.
I'm on a broadband connection, and the delay and error frequency is still unbearable. I can't imagine what it must be for those of you on dial-up.

Personally, I'd rather it be done the way we have been doing it. Proteus's new thread is loading up quick for me, and also for a few friends of mine reading in. So I don't see the point. But its not up to me.

I think it is fine as it is. You just gotta keep hittin' refresh. We all deal with the slow speed and proxy errors, you must persevere!

I don't believe that connection speed is the issue. There are some database issues with the board that can cause slowdowns. Plz, if your avatars are over 100 x 80 pixels resize them or remove them. I'll help anyone that needs help resizing. -

Well, the current direct reply method is fine for those of us in the States, but it seems a bit unfair for our Euro members. 6pm Pacific time translates into 2am GMT. A drawing of all answers submitted by a certain deadline time would still allow the folks in UK, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, etc. to also participate without having to stay up until the wee hours.
I'm OK either way, probably won't have a clue on the "big" trivia question anyway...

I agree. If it changes ot goes from being a Gretsch trivia contest to a research contest with a drawing at the end. Big difference. I've been up for days boning up on Gretsch history for this one.

I like the idea, especially considering the uptick in the forum traffic is probably exasperating the problem. But I'll play by whatever rules we have; it's just cool as crap to have a chance to win a Gretsch!

Ditto to Mark. Instead of studying, I've been studying Gretsches. And on the Euro members, Proteus stated the time of the contest, which gives them fair game to be up and ready IMO.
Sorry to seem brash about this, but it seems less fair to those who actually know the info and get it up there first.
