JC, that is a cool avatar, and my primary source for the trivia questions! It is an excellent book.

3 hour and 50 minutes of proxy errors. This is the most fun I have had in ages. I kept thinking of those car give away contests where everyone puts a hand on the car and the last one standing wins the car.
To translate that image to the internet seemed pretty funny to me.

I think it was Proteus' new contest rules, an endurance/ persistence test.

Proteus has made an announcement on the contest thread. This was agonizing. It was comforting to see that everyone had the same problem, even Proteus. Baxter must have been pulling his hair out.

Thread housekeeping.
No doubt you've read the updates in the Anni giveaway thread.
To clarify and emphasize: the contest will go forward as soon as we can be confident we have a stable and fair environment for it. I'm shooting for Tuesday; watch the other post for updates.
• I don't mind dman's suggestion of a drawing from all the right answers. It does have merit. On the other hand, if we have a stable platform, the quiz method works nicely too. Joe and I will discuss it.
• The last Electromatic amp will be the prize for the runner-up in the Anni giveaway.
• The show is over, but more solid content is coming to this thread.
Winner announcements.
Q: Who was Ray Butts and why are we proud of him?
A: There are several: tape echo development, the Electrosonic amp, Filtertron pickups among them. We planned to give away two Fender straight cords, but since several posters brought out different and accurate information, I lost count and we're giving away five. Winners are JC, Sunshine, stjohn, Boyko, and jurassicmonkey.Q: Where were Gretschs made in late 70s and early 80s?
A: Booneville, Arkansas
Mark S racks up another big win for a Gretsch beer mug.Q: Four Gretsch bass body construction methods?
A: Gretschmaster gets close, but I like the completeness of Dy Nyl's answer: Thundertron: Solidbody; White Falcon: Hollow Body; BillyBo: Chambered Body; Electrotone: Closed HollowBody. He also gets a fabulous Gretsch baseball jersey.
To celebrate the return of our beloved server, a non-Gretsch-specific question: what do The Who, Joe Walsh, Wishbone Ash, and The James Gang have in common?
A Gretschfire ballcap to the first right answer.

They all have a "W" in their name except the James Gang (but they had Joe Walsh as a member).

In 1968 Joe Walsh replaced Glen Schwartz in the JAMES GANG. The band (JG) opened for The Who during a tour of Britain. Joe Walsh also appeared on Keith Moons solo album "Two sides of the moon".
And of course their common producer Bill Szymczyk.

I take no responsibility for that Jazzmaster, dnba. I was just glad to see it; the only other one there was the standard sunburst, which I played (and liked).

Late Night Giveaway.
For a completely inappropriate Gretschflame ball cap, what is the connection between the #1 pop hit of 1954 and Chet Atkins?
First two callers get matching hats, and shouldn't be seen together wearing them.

Okay... Here's my Late Night Attempt:
1954's pop hit was 'Mr. Sandman'. Chet covered the song and it became his own first hit.
Any special parting gifts as a Night Owl Bonus? Like, oh I dunno, one of them fancy 5222 amps? !!
Cheers and thanks agian for all the great work Proteus! We sure appreciate it!
