Just seen the Vintage & Rare Guitars website and it got me wondering... Which guitars do you really regret selling?

I got two - a 70's Les Paul Deluxe, which in hindsight I should have put P90s in. I think I got about £450 for it. I'd probably be able to get at least twice that for it now...

But the biggest one has to have been a 1973 Telecaster Deluxe. It had the two Fender humbuckers, an ash body and a factory-fitted Strat trem - one of 50 produced. I can't remember why I sold it, but these days it would be worth at least fifteen times what I actually got for it 20 years ago. I kick myself about it now!

What about anyone else?

I don't regret selling any guitars but I sold a Fender Vibro Champ to my brother-in-law and I regret that. I bought it in 1981 for £85 and sold it to him for £50 about 1989. He was apparently desperate for an amp and I had an AC30 too so I let him have it at a 'family price'. He sold it on for profit much to my disgust. An AC30 isn't ideal for home practice and my dreams of starting a band to dominate the world surprisingly came to nothing so I reverted to bedroom playing and the Champ would be perfect for that.

I have since acquired an Epiphone Valve Jr that has a similar tone but not the wonderful tremolo of the Vibro Champ.

Good lord, where to start - '56, '57, '59, '61 and '64 6120's, a '55 Roundup, '55 and '57 Duo Jets, '57, '61 and several '64 Country Gents, a '62 Tenny, a '63 Jazzmaster, two '64 Rickenbacker Rose Morris 1998's, and so on.

But, I've never had a collection, so each one was sold to buy the next. I'd have never had any of them if I hadn't sold the last, so it's hard to say that selling any of them was a mistake. But, I sure wish I could have kept buying without selling. I'd have quite a nice collection.

no...i stop buying&Selling years ago.i only get what i REALLY want/need the whole concept of those who die with the most toys wins is just foreign to me + i don't have that kinda money anymore.ha! if you do knock yer self out,but in that case you probably wouldn't care anyway,ha!I wish i had MY westbury bass back,hardly vintage,but the G&L dose just fine(So not really)But it was such a cool bass solid walnut!

'67 Rickenbacker 12-string.

I wanted a Ric and didn't have enough $$. I found this one on ebay in a lousy listing and bought it for $875! It played sooo easy, and it had that vintage chimey sound in spades. A few nicks and scratches, but major vibe. Just a fantastic guitar.

So, of course, I immediately I sold it for double the price to buy a new 360 . . . and couldn't play it. The neck was too narrow, and even after a set-up I couldn't chord it cleanly. Plus it just didn't sound like the old one. I sold it and have no Ric at all

Whatever it was that made that '67 so easy to play I've never know . . . and I've regretted selling it ever since.

I kinda regret selling my Peavey Wiggy. It's just a weird and unusual looking amp that looks great on stage with it's glowing Astro Martinesque dashboard. I've been thinking of buying another one, they don't make them anymore.

'72 Les Paul Custom I sold for a grand a few years back. I'd gotten it dirt cheap from a friend (the classic "had it under the bed for 30 years" story), so its not like I had cash tied up in it. Shoulda kept it, even though it was heavy as an anvil....

The one regret I have is my Paramount Arch top. I'm guessing it was made in the 30s-40s, but was never sure. Black, #475.

It was used in "The Soldier's Story", and I got it after that.

It was the most unique sounding guitar I've ever owned. Haven't seen one since.

I sold my really nice jazz boxes to good friends with the condition of first right of refusal for what I sold it to them for. I get visitation, and loan to if needed for recording.

I have more regrets about what I didn't buy than what I've sold.

1958 (or '59) Duo-Jet with Filter-trons. It would "bookend" nicely with the '56 I have now with Dynas.

I sort of regret getting rid of a blackface Fender Priceton and my '57 Cadillac right before I got married. I do not regret getting rid of my now ex-wife however.

Nice Catdaddy1967... very nice. No, I don't mind at all you ripping open all of my old wounds and pouring rock salt into them. I really enjoy the pain and agony it causes.

If I actually put down a list of all the wonderful guitars and amps I've STUPIDLY sold, traded, or whatever... I'd have to be committed to the state mental hospital for extreme manic depression and put on a suicide watch in a rubber room.

Well most of mine were sold to get what i have now so..

Wish i still had my 71 Les Paul Deluxe Gold top,78 Super Chet ,Rick 325V59,52 Tele and so on.. I need a drink now.

Only thing I really regret selling is a Marshall Bluesbreaker reissue combo I had, nothing that special, I know, but a nice amp, and "a good one".

I do have regrets about certain things I didn't buy when I had half a chance, and have become "investment pieces".

The real stinker was that the proceeds of each sale was supposed to go into the purchase of the next, but it NEVER happened. I've learned my lesson. I'm not selling anything anymore. :)

You made out better than I did. I let mine go for $600! I regret it because I would like to have a Les Paul in my current collection, but in reality, it would probably still be sitting under the bed as it had been when I sold it.

Also, I got caught up in the "super distortion" trend of the '80s and swapped out the original pickups for Seymour Duncans. When I listen back to recordings I made back in the '70s before I changed the PUs, the clean Gibson sound was actually very cool - oh well.

I sold many guitars, FX and amps without regret. The only one I REALLY mis, is my Epi Korina Explorer. That was a lovely guitar.

Years ago I went to Nashville to play at the Grand Ol' Opera (not as cool as it sounds as it was a cheesy scam talent competition, but I was just a hired gun) and we stopped at Gruhn's Guitar shop. What a great store. I bought the cheapest guitar they had ...a rare Ernie Ball Albert Lee Music Man in Pink Burst. It was so Beautiful. I put it up for sale a year later for 200 bucks more than I bought it for and it sold in 15 minutes. I paid bills with this money. What a waste.
