Got up early and started prepping the 18lb turkey and wondered what everyone else is having today. This is my one huge carb intense day of the year.
Last night I made 2 Apple pies with cranberries and walnuts. I varied a recipe from Phila Hatch's cook book. Jessica is making pumpkin pie.
Turkey(of course), rubbed in olive oil and spices, slow cooked, and basted frequently
Giblet gravy - that gets started before anything else.
Stuffing with chopped apples, walnuts, celery, onion, garlic, and green onions.
Mashed potatoes - my older kids love the way I make 'em. I think they're just to lazy to make them for themselves. Very creamy with lots of butter.
Cornbread muffins - dinner rolls too, but they like their cornbread a little sweet
Green beans almondine - my daughter makes this pretty well.
Cranberry sauce - the homemade kind. It's easy, and once you have that, it'll be hard going back to canned again.
Buttered corn - Kids mix it with their mashed potatoes. So do I.
Tomato salad - we're using the last of our Jersey tomatoes(which are the best in the world) a sweet& tart dressing with fresh chopped basil and chopped onion.
Cucumber salad - Same dressing as the Tomato salad, except I throw in dill instead of basil.
Candied Yams with marshmallows.
