Bear What a thing to have to deal with. At least there are folks that got your back. Do what your Doc tells ya, and mind that woman--she's a good one. Best of luck to you. You're in our prayers.

Proteus said: I'm headed toward Lvl at this moment; if you want to get together to go kick some ass and pick up chicks - or just rage against the big ol' machine - email me your phoneno and we'll hang out.
Tim,
I went to bed early last night and didn't see this until this morning. Man, I would have loved to have hung out with you. I'm really sorry that I missed this.

Hey Bear - you are not dumping - it's great that you want to share this with us here - and we are pleased that you do. Trust your Doc - he must know best.
I got angina 5 years ago - and when I had the angiogram I was shocked to find I had three clogged up arteries - two fully clogged and one nigh-on fully clogged. I felt terrible - and frightened. But with a loving wife and a consultant I trusted in I took the recommended option to have a triple by-pass operation. It went well and I feel more healthy than I ever did. I was lucky - I found out I had a problem before it was too late. Bear - you are lucky too - you have a loving wife and a good Doc and the problem has been found before its too late.
My very best wishes to you.

Bear:
When I read this originally, I couldn't respond, but I said a prayer for you. Agree with everything else that has been said here already. I only might add that you ask the doctor, "Doc, If you were in my exact situation, knowing what you know, would you have the procedure or wait?"
Be well!

Bear, there is a lot of excellent advice in this thread from the many wellwishers at GDP. It sounds like your cardiologist is knowledgeable, and is working in your best interest. You have a supportive family, especially your wife (Janice?) You have a heads up on a condition that might have been missed under other circumstances. You have a good attitude considering what's been dealt. Some positive aspects, some tough decisions to make, but a lot of wisdom to draw from.
My dad had the same procedure done very successfully, and he survived for many years afterward. The treatment for lung cancer and other conditions finally beat him into submission at 84. Carotid artery still functioning fine.
Hopefully you can take a measure of comfort from all this, and in knowing that the prayers are going out for you.
Please keep us posted.

Well folks, tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. EST I enter the hospital to have my carotid artery opened up and a cardiac catheter (putting a camera into the heart). My cardiologist has convinced me, even with all the risks involved, that this is the best course of action for me; and all of my research this past week confirms that as well.
Please wish me luck or say a prayer for me and I'll be back with you all as soon as I am able.
