The greatest album is the one YOU like the most....that's the only answer there can be to this question (though it is interesting reading through everyone's choices).
Earlier, I posted about Capt. Beefheart's "Clear Spot" album. When you buy the CD version, you get both "The Spotlight Kid" and "Clear Spot" on the same CD. Great transition between trying to do it yourself...then adding Ted Templeman.
"Clear Spot" will change your point-of-view.
Take Delta Blues, add Sunset Strip Avant Garde, a four octave voice (sometimes blowing a wildman harmonica), crazy guitars, monotonous rhythm...and you get something close to perfection.
Oh man...a month ago I'd have said Revolver as well, but then I found Radiohead. So I'm gonna say Ok Computer is my (as of this time) best album.
But how often does that change for everyone? :D

I would pick "Forever Changes" from Love.
Although I know it quite well, this one still surprises me every time I listen to it.

It is far too subjective to try to pick the greatest album of all time. Kind of like trying to pick the best food of all time. It just doesn't compute for me.
That being said, I will nominate an album that had a substantial impact on me for many years...Poco's Deliverin'. This record was on my turntable so many times that I would be surprised if the grooves weren't worn out.
Great harmonies (including the high harmonies of George Grantham and Timothy B. Schmit), fantastic dobro and pedal steel playing by Rusty Young, positive lyrics of Richie Furay, great Tele twanging by Jim Messina, and simply a very infectious energy that I couldn't shake.
