Hey guys, I have a 60, 6120. My pickups are way lower than the one pictured. This is Rick Miller from Southern Culture on the Skids' 60. His obviously has a hotter tone. They're pretty close in serial numbers. Would I have to put some kind of shim under mine to raise them, or can I turn out the screw to get them closer to the strings, in turn making a hotter tone?
1960 6120 pickup height?

You'll have to shim underneath them. Also, I have played two 6120s from the same year that had way more output, even though their pickups measured out the same resitance.

Hey Jim...
Mouspad material works really well. That's what I shimmed mine with!

Hey I also have a 6120-60. Mine was built in 2005. I really dig it now that I have done a proper set up - thanks to GDP.How you may ask? Well skinny Jim on the bottom left hand of your screen is a button titled " articles ". Push it. Now find "Mals big guide to guitar setup and trouble shooting". This page is excellent. All you need to know about set up and the finer things in life.

Welcome to the GDP Skinny Jim. Enjoyed the sound clips on your site. Gretsch sounded good to me, should have no trouble raising pup's. Don

Thanks for the kind words donwood! I've browsed this site before, but never had a chance to really explore it. This is the kindest group of pickers I've ever met. As a Gretsch owner (Im up to 9 now!), I feel right at home. I'm going to try to raise those pu's first thing tomorrow. I'm sure Ill be on here panicking and asking for help by tomorrow afternoon hahah!

Hi Skinny Jim... I echo the groups "welcome"! If you've got 9 Gretsch guitars, you need to be hanging out here more often. You might also consider adding your stable to the serial number logs that are being compiled...

Baxter... it seems like this is getting worse (slow response, lock-ups, multiple posts)... anything you can do?
