Would a single poly lined locking nut do the trick on the end of the bolt inside the concave part of the cup as you insert it? Would this give you enough pressure to get the threads to bite into the guitar? I'm sure you could test this on a scrap piece of wood first before the installation. You could also try a touch of CA glue on the bottom of the nut to attach it to the cup. After you get it in place, heat the cup or nut with a soldering iron to break the bond between the cup and the nut. - Just thinking out loud here. Trying to avoid the problem of removing the nut from the inside of the guitar after installation.

Ditto on what jazzboxjunky says. Just didn't know if you had a tap. How much you wanna' bet that Andy's machinist in-law has the proper tap to use?

Any possibility of mounting the input jack into the cup and screwing it in? As long as the wires remain disconnected wire twist shouldn't be an issue. Just a thought.

Here's one that I haven't seen, before today ... Nice looking guitar!
Some interesting differences from my '56 / '57 6121... I.E. the fixed-arm Bigsby, tuners and the color differences (the guitar and case).
Wait! ... Hmmm? ... Have we discussed this one in the past?
I don't think so ...

Yes. This particular guitar was on Ebay and required a neck reset.

Well guys its basically done! I am waiting for a pickguard that Andy and I have been working on. It should arrive this week. I will do the final painting of the guard this weekend and mount it on the guitar. The guitar itself is together and plays very nice. It stays in tune, intonates well and most of all IS PLAYABLE AGAIN! Yeah! The neck pitch was right on. I am very happy with the outcome. From when I first recieved it until now, the change has been huge. While not perfect, its pretty darn nice. I can't wait to show it to everyone.
I will be posting the final pictures this weekend. Watch for the big reveal!

Andy got the guitar on Monday. He'll have to tell ya what he thinks of the work. We are still waiting for the guard to be finished, so I will be sending him that in a week or two. Other than that, I think it turned out quite good. The neck set was perfect and it plays real nice. It is an interesting guitar for sure as it has a slightly smaller neck than any jet I have played. It slightly narrower than most.
I hope Andy chimes in and posts some pics.

hey guys, sorry for the late reply... i do have the old girl back and am totally pleased with everything. JD is the master! his work work is amazing and hes a true gretsch geek, which is the person that i wanted to work on my guitar.. strangely enough i have yet to plug the guitar in an amp (dont ask.. i have a bunch of amps but none at home), although i do have band practice tonight and will be playing it for the first time plugged in! interestingly, it has a very acoustic sound for being an 'electric' guitar. ive been plunkin' on it ever since i've gotten it back...
again many thanks go to JD for being the super nice guy and a bad ass luthier that he is and taking this project on. i dont care what he says, the guy is awesome. not only did he bring back the old girl from the dead with the neck reset, but also did quite alot of esthetic work and nailed the exact vibe i was going for. i did not want a refinned guitar that looks brand new. i wanted it to play well but definitely wanted to keep the the old vibe and he nailed it. also the work he did on the bigsby was amazing... all in all, hes the best person that could have done this job. thanks again bro!!
also, another mention since im on my "thanks list", thanks to 57chet, setzer and anyone else that i may have forgotten for sending pics, info, or anything else that we needed while we were trying to rescue her from spending the rest of eternity in a guitar case!
i will post pics shortly!

Hi Guys, small slight setback on the guard. I had the wrong zipcode and got it back. I will need to send it out again tomorrow or Saturday to have it finished. Everything is set up and ready to go, I just haven't been able to get it into the right hands. Josh your help was spot on. So it might be another week or so.
Sorry!
To those who don't know, my buddy Josh (JB) is one of the pickguards kings around here and has graciously helped me along many times on different guards in the past. He is helping make this special guard happen too. Thanks JB! I owe ya one. In fact, Andy may be comming to town in the near future. He will be about halfway between you and me. So we will have to have night out with the Gretsch's.
JD
