Hey Chris-
I really like the studio sounds you are getting. It sounds badass. I dig the vocal sound you are getting too (the vox sound VERY compressed, but in the good way) Nice job. I find that recording vocals is one of the hardest things to do (drums are next in line) and you are nailing it.
The tune needs some bass though. I have a guitar studio session this week...if you can send me the WAV files (each track needs to be a seperate file including the click track if you used one). I may be able to do it with just a raw track too, but it won't won't be a very easy mix on your end,
I'll throw two slap upright tracks (mono w/ two mics- one with the tail and one on the fingerboard- pan as necessary) on the song and do a quick mix-down for your reference. Then I can email you the tracks back. It will be up to you to sync em' up but it's pretty easy (and free, as I'm at the studio already anyways and the mics are already set up for my bass)...PM me if you want to do this. I think it would be fun.
Onto another idea I had (and I;m sure tons of work for Bax, but just a brainstorm on my part) I wonder if it would be possible to add a "recording- tips and tricks" area to the site?
I think it would be neat and probably helpful for a lot of folks. I know that there are tons of forums out there about recording, but most are really gear and engineering intensive- and seem to assume that everyone is using $500 mics, macs, and thousand dollar ProTool setups.
I'm sure between all of us, we have done some pretty cool stuff (good and bad experiences) in the studio and have some cool info and tips to pass on with limited gear and software...
Also to Chris, where the heck are you posting this stuff that it's so easy to play? I have a whole record of unreleased Rockabilly/ Hillbilly Boogie stuff I want to post for everyone here...
